World Water Day 2022

As every 22 March today, we celebrate World Water Day and once again raise awareness about the subject, and take action to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 : water and sanitation for all by 2030.

The theme of World Water Day 2022 is groundwater , which in many places is over-used and polluted by human activities. The remediation process is often long and difficult, and this increases the costs of processing groundwater, and sometimes even prevents the use of this precious resource.

We must protect groundwater from pollution and use it sustainably, balancing the needs of people and the planet: groundwater’s critical role in water and sanitation systems, agriculture, industry, ecosystems and climate change adaptation must therefore be reflected in sustainable actions.

“What we do on the surface matters underground. We must only put harmless, biodegradable products on the soil and use water as efficiently as possible.”

As Nordic Oily Waste A / S we focus on industries wastewater , which has also been the focus topic of a past edition of World Water Day.

The vast majority of all the wastewater from our homes, cities, industry and agriculture flows back to nature without being treated or reused, polluting the environment and losing valuable nutrients and recoverable materials.

Instead of wasting wastewater, we need to reduce and reuse it:

  • In our homes, we can reuse greywater on our gardens and plots.
  • In our cities, we can treat and reuse wastewater for green spaces.
  • In industry and agriculture, we can treat and recycle discharge for things like cooling / heating systems, tank washing and irrigation.

By exploiting this resource, we will make the water cycle work better for every living thing. And we will help achieve the SDG 6 target to reduce the proportion of untreated wastewater and increase water recycling and safe reuse.

Since industrial water consumption is responsible for 22% of global water use (UN-Water, 2012) if you feel like your business could do more for the environment, you can contact us  and we will find a solution to upcycle your industry liquid waste.
